I'm always surprised at this point in a painting by how much I don't, or didn't see.

A couple drawings from one of the several sketchbooks that I have going. The drawing of the clown is after a painting at the Philbrook here in Tulsa. I've only seen it once in an anniversary show.
These are a few monotypes, from a demo for class last fall.
Rio Chama Valley, in northern New Mexico. Auctioned to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Oklahoma this spring, in Still Water.

A while ago I ordered some paper on a roll. This drawing is about 6 ft. long. the material at the moment is just charcoal. There seem to be some nice things happening in some places. The far right seems to be out of step with the rest. It has some strength, and movement though. I find that I spend a lot of time looking, I need to know what is actually happening before I can move further.

This is the final state of what is now titled personal space. Things ended up getting more fragmented than I had hoped. Another canvas is stretched and ready to go.
I decided to stop messing with this. I am no longer in the place I was when it all started and if I go on, I will unpaint most of it. I started it as a diptych, so that I could solve some issues with composition and edges. I don't know now if I've solved anything.
I enjoy more than anything learning new things. I try in the work to answer some questions. I also enjoy the moment of excitement that comes when a discovery is made or some unknown thing is revealed. I like to play with motion and space, sound and color. Sometimes these show up in the work if I do it well.
Like everyone else I am the product of my environment as far back as memory goes and maybe even farther. I believe that the chance of anyone else ever having the same environment as far back as they can remember, is not even remotely possible. So the things that we express, as much as we might want them to be like someone else's can only be ours, the product of who we are.
So in a way our job is to discover all of that and expose it through the work.
